Edmonson County
Home of the #1 tourist attraction in Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park, Edmonson County provides a natural rural setting for families and businesses. We believe it is the “Natural Place To Be for Kentucky’s Unbridled Spirit.” Brownsville City Government and Edmonson County Fiscal Court work together for the betterment of the community. The City of Brownsville is governed by a mayor and six council members. The mayor (Tim Houchin) is elected to a four-year term while the members each serve two-year terms. Edmonson County is governed by a county judge executive (N.E. Reed) and six magistrates. Each county official serves a four-year term. The population in 2004 was 11,921. Edmonson County is located on I-65, less than 15 miles northeast of Bowling Green, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky TriModal Transpark. Edmonson County is conveniently located 90 miles northeast of Nashville, Tennessee and 90 miles southwest of Louisville, Kentucky. Our central location provides one-day access to major markets in the Southeast and Midwest. Since 2002, we have had three new industries locate in the industrial park. We believe that once you visit Edmonson County, you will understand why it is the “Natural Place to Be.” TransportationEdmonson County’s transportation system includes interstate, rail, and air service within close proximity. HighwayEdmonson County has access to Interstate 65, Western KY Parkway and Cumberland Parkway. Interstate 65 access is in Park City, just 2 miles from the industrial park. Western KY Parkway is accessed via Hwy 259. Cumberland Parkway accesses the county at I-65. Both industrial parks are conveniently located on U.S. 31W. RailEdmonson County is served by the main line of CSX railroad that connects Louisville, KY in the north and Nashville, TN in the south. CSX railroad borders the back of the industrial park with a spur line located in Park City, two miles from the park. AirRegional air service is available 20 miles southwest in Bowling Green, KY. The airport consists of a 6,500 ft. runway and a 4,000 ft. runway. A FFA Flight service station is located at the airport. Services provided at the airport include: charter service, corporate flight management, air freight, land-air express, corporate flights, and Federal Express. Located 12 miles east in Glasgow, KY is Moore Field. This facility includes a 4,000 foot runway and a Fixed Based Operator. This airport is currently used for recreational, industrial and medical purposes. Commercial flights are available through the Louisville International Airport (less than 90 miles north) and the Nashville International Airport (less than 65 miles south). Communications/MediaTelephone, radio, television, newspaper, and Internet comprise the communications/media system for Edmonson County. Telephone and Internet service is provided by GTE Kentucky. High speed Internet service is available in Brownsville’s city limits. This service is provided by Alltel. Radio and television is serviced by surrounding counties. The locally owned newspaper, Edmonson News, has provided Edmonson County with weekly news for the past 45 years. The Park City Daily News, Courier-Journal, and Glasgow Daily Times are daily newspapers. Land and InfrastructureEdmonson County is proud to offer two industrial parks to prospective businesses. Three sites are available in park #1 ranging in size of 5 to 18 acres. This park is located on 31W and two miles from I-65 access. CSX provides the back border for this park. These lots are ready for immediate occupancy. Park #2 is also located on 31W. This park consists of 50 acres ready for development. Edmonson County Industrial Authority is in the process of developing this park. Both parks are within fifteen minutes of the Kentucky TriModal Transpark. IndustryPark #1 is home for three flourishing businesses; Jasco, YAMI, and Fire One. For the past two years, Jasco has been named General Motors’ Supplier of the Year. YAMI was named the 2005 Industry of the Year. Each offers their employees a clean, friendly, and stable working environment. Fire One is in the business of building customized fire trucks. Downtown Brownsville has Home Town Cabinets and Furniture. This new business provides custom cabinets and furniture for their customers. Brownsville and Edmonson County are proud to have these industries in their community. We look forward to more industries locating to the county and letting them experience “The Natural Place To Be.” EducationEdmonson County Public School System has 2,120 students. Edmonson County High School offers an outstanding curriculum in basic education and has vocational training in welding, electrical and auto mechanics. It also offers a complete athletics department and is the home of the 1976 Boys Kentucky State Basketball Champion. The education system also includes one middle school (grades 7-8), a 5th/6th grade school and two elementary schools. The students in the Edmonson County School System rank academically in the top one-third of the state. The county is also within minutes of higher education opportunities. Western Kentucky University’s (WKU) main campus is less than 20 miles southwest in downtown Bowling Green. WKU also has a satellite campus in Glasgow which is 20 miles east. Lindsey Wilson College is within an hours drive. Vocational education opportunities are also in close proximity. The Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) has campuses in Bowling Green, Glasgow, Leitchfield, and Elizabethtown. Kentucky Advanced Technology Institute and Draughons Junior College are located in Bowling Green. LifestyleThe beautiful rural scenery, friendly people and the small town atmosphere are just a few of the reasons businesses and people love to locate in Edmonson County. Mammoth Cave National Park, Nolin Lake State Park, and three golf courses provide natural scenery as well as many recreational opportunities. Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the world at 350 miles. Visitors to the cave can enjoy regional hospitality while staying at the Mammoth Cave Hotel or woodland cottages. Besides sleeping accommodations, the facility offers the perfect location for business meetings and retreats. Nolin Lake (6,000 acres) is one of the top five lakes in Kentucky for bass, catfish, crappie and walleye. Beach and camping facilities are also available. The golf courses located throughout the county provide golfers with the opportunity to test their skills on three different courses. The county recently developed parks to offer a clean and safe place for family outings. They are also home for the recreational sports leagues. Last year the county hosted the state softball tournament and looks forward to hosting many more events.
