BOWLING GREEN, KY (November 19, 2008) - The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce encourages business owners and entrepreneurs to look to the Service Corps of Retired Executives Association (SCORE) for business counseling and education. SCORE has been assisting small business for more than 40 years and is a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The association, made up of 11,000 volunteer business executives and professionals across the nation, provides entrepreneurs and small business owners with free counsel, advice and education. Counselors advise and guide their clients to make decisions about business ventures, and counseling is available for persons wanting to go into business as well as those already in business. SCORE counselors have a wide variety of experience from areas such as sales, marketing, manufacturing, inventory control, production scheduling, finance, and engineering, among other business experiences. Dan Preston, vice president of economic development for the Chamber, encourages contacting SCORE for business assistance. "SCORE counselors provide firsthand experience for their clients. Because of their vast network of counselors, any business or individual can get advice on an issue whether through a one-on-one meeting or on a listserv. The possibilities for assistance are endless because of the 11,000 counselors SCORE offers across the nation." To schedule an appointment to meet with a local SCORE counselor, contact Ed Adkins at 270-746-5948. The Bowling Green branch of SCORE is in need of more SCORE counselors. There are many opportunities to become involved for business leaders who are looking to utilize their business expertise to help a small business startup or to expand an existing industry. Volunteer roles are available for individual/team counseling, e-mail counseling, business training workshops and administrative support. Volunteers do not need to be retired to join SCORE.
