The event will spotlight Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products, LLC as the 2008 Industry of the Year and will show appreciation to the many industries choosing to locate or expand in South Central Kentucky. On October 2, the Chamber announced that Kobe would be honored as the 2008 Industry of the Year. One of 11 Kobe Steel, Ltd. subsidiaries in the United States, Kobe's Bowling Green location is the only U.S. facility to forge aluminum suspension products for the automotive industry. Its Japan-based parent company has been serving Japan's aircraft and automotive industries since 1937 and is Japan's top producer of aluminum alloy suspension arms. "Kobe, along with the other industries we'll recognize next Thursday night, is a strong contributor to the economy of South Central Kentucky," said James N. Hizer, CEcD, Chamber president and CEO. "We are honored to have a company like Kobe in our community, and we appreciate their continued commitment to providing high quality jobs for our residents." The Chamber celebrates Industry Appreciation Month in order to recognize and honor the impact that industries make upon South Central Kentucky. Not only is it important to recognize the new industries that have chosen to locate in the region, but also to celebrate industries who have decided to expand their facilities here. Since July of this year, the Chamber has participated in five expansion announcements for companies in the manufacturing and service industries. "We've been thrilled to participate in two expansion announcements for DESA and announcements for American Howa Kentucky, Perot Systems and NEW Corporation this year," said Doug Gorman, chairman of the Chamber Board of Directors. "Based on an impact model that the Chamber uses, we know that the total economic impact of these five expansions is more than $18.5 million. That's an impressive figure that shouldn't be forgotten!" Registration for the Industry Appreciation Banquet closes at 4:30 p.m. today, Thursday, October 16. Register online at www.bgchamber.com/events.
